What If You Don't Feel Photogenic?

“I’m not photogenic.” “I don’t like being in front of a camera.” “I never get pictures of myself that I like.”

Have you ever said any of these things? The good news is that you’re not alone. Most of the people I talk to feel the same way. We all tend to be our own worst critic.

What I’ve also found is that most of the time people say they don’t know how to look genuine in front of the camera. Normally, we are unhappy with pictures of ourselves because our expressions look forced and we don’t look how we imagine ourselves looking or even how we see ourselves in the mirror. We see someone else, not ourselves. The forced expression makes us feel like a different person.

If we could just overcome that, I believe that many of our feelings about being “not very photogenic” would be changed. If we could learn how to be genuine in front of the camera like we are in real life, we would be in a position to make a great first impression with our headshots.

This is one of the main things I address with my Expression Coaching. I don't leave things up to you to figure out facial expressions. I also don’t want my headshot sessions to be like school picture day all over again. Instead, I format my sessions to be a collaboration of two professionals working together to achieve a goal and execute a vision. To accomplish this, I spend time teaching each of my clients how to look confident, approachable, and above all, how to look genuine. I then coach clients through this for the entirety of the session. It's a game changer.

People can easily recognize genuine expression and it immediately helps build trust and communicate confidence. And beyond that…..looking genuine helps you look and feel like “you.”

Don’t believe you’re photogenic? I beg to differ! Get in touch to discuss how my expression coaching can help elevate your online image. I can implement this in individual headshot sessions as well as corporate group headshot sessions.
